Attendance and Behaviour
Filey Academy Attendance
At Filey Academy, we are committed to providing high quality education and improving outcomes for all our pupils. In order for a child to reach their full potential, we expect a high level of school attendance so they are able to maximize their learning and achievement. At Filey Academy we believe in strong and effective partnerships with our Filey Academy community to help us to achieve our aims of every single student maximising their learning opportunities. Full attendance at school (100%) maximises our students’ opportunities in the future; our parents and carers, along with members of staff, have a vital role in promoting positive attitudes in attendance, ensuring their child is present and on time to school every day.
Whilst we strive for every student to achieve 100% attendance, the minimum level of attendance for Filey Academy is 97% attendance and we will keep you updated regularly about progress to this level and how your child’s attendance compares.
Those people responsible for attendance matters in this academy are:
- Miss Herring, Attendance Officer
 - Miss Howells, Learning Manager, Year 7
 - Miss Borrill or Mr Knowles, Learning Manager, Year 8
 - Miss Borrill, Learning Manager, Year 9
 - Mr Knowles, Learning Manager, Year 10
 - Mr Emmerson, Learning Manager, Year 11

Persistent Absence
A student becomes a Persistent Absentee when they miss 10% of their schooling across the academic year for whatever reason is doing considerable damage to any child’s educational prospects and we need parents/carers full support and co-operation with regards to this.
If your child is absent and we have not received a reason-we will:
- Telephone or text on the first day of absence
 - Make a home visit if we cannot establish contact

Home Visits
- After 2 or more days of absence, we will make a safe and well check, even if we have a reason for the absence.
 - If contact cannot be established, we continue to visit and if no contact is made, we may request a safe and well check to be carried out by North Yorkshire Police.

Punctuality
All Students are expected to arrive on time at Filey Academy, ready for lessons. Students should arrive before 8.35am for them to be punctual to their first lesson which begins at 8.40am. Any student who arrives in after 8.35am will need to sign in at student reception and will be marked as late and will receive a C4 Late detention.
