Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance and Provider Access
Filey Academy Provider Access Policy Statement
Schools are required to ensure that there is an opportunity for a range of education and training providers to access students in years 8 to 11 for the purposes of informing them about approved technical education, qualifications or apprenticeships. Schools must have a policy statement that outlines the circumstances in which education and training providers will be given access to these students.
This is outlined in section 42B of the Education Act 1997.
This policy statement shows how our school complies with these requirements.
Opportunities for access
A number of events, integrated into our careers programme and including parents’ evenings will offer providers an opportunity to come into school to speak to students and/or their parents/carers. Please speak to Jo Rowland to identify the most suitable opportunity for you.
Safeguarding
Our safeguarding/child protection policy outlines the school’s procedure for checking the identity and suitability of visitors. Education and training providers will be expected to adhere to this policy.
Premises and facilities
Learning spaces such as the hall and classrooms, which include access to technology, screens and audio facilities can be made available on request.
In the first instance, please contact Jo Rowland (see contact details below) to discuss your requirements.
Providers are welcome to leave at reception any prospectuses or other material for students to read.
Management of provider access requests
A provider wishing to request access should contact: Jo Rowland, Careers Leader. Telephone: 01723 628608 Email: rowlandJ1@fileyacademy.co.uk
Evaluation of our Careers programme
We believe it is important to review the effectiveness of our careers programme and provision. This is done in a range of ways:
- Once per term we use a careers benchmark tool called Compass. This self-evaluation quickly and easily helps us to evaluate our careers activity as a school against the eight benchmarks of best practice – known as the Gatsby Benchmarks. This tool was built in partnership with the Gatsby Charitable Foundation, to help easily discover strengths and find areas for improvement.
- Once completed, the tool provides school with a confidential report and resources to help you achieve each benchmark
- Partnership with NYBEP to review the report from Compass and make decisive actions to address areas of weakness with available or bespoke activities.
- Students’ complete evaluations as part of each activity
- Destination data is gathered and shared with the Local Authority to identify trends and patterns in post-16 choices
- Feedback is also gathered from partners such as interviewees from our Year 11 Mock Interview session, which is then factored into the planning and delivery of subsequent events
