Personal Development
Our curriculum is designed to improve learners’ self-esteem while developing higher aspirations in both current academic and personal situations and in pursuing long term careers and goals.
Life lessons (our SMSC – Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural educational offer) forms part of a student’s Personal Development experience whilst in school. Our Life curriculum provision gives due regard to the DfE’s statutory guidance on sex and relationship education as well as focusing in more detail on issues most relevant to learners in our local context. Specific needs, as they arise, are responded to and incorporated into our planning. Life curriculum content is sequenced to ensure that key issues are revisited in later years and in greater depth.
Aspects of SMSC development is also delivered through the form time schedule which outlines activities to be facilitated each morning by form tutors and is tightly linked to the weekly assembly programme and Life lessons.
The Life curriculum and Form Time activities are further enhanced by themed assemblies, guest speakers, visits, enrichment clubs and activities, and the Student Leadership Group.
